Tensid- und salzhaltige Reiniger trocknen in der Düsenbohrung ein und kristallisieren dort aus, und diese Bohrung ist schmaler als ein Nähnadelöhr. Zieh nach der Arbeit klares Wasser in den Kopf und pump ihn zwei- bis dreimal leer, bis nur noch Wasser kommt. Verbreitet sind NBR, ein Nitrilkautschuk für wässrige und ölige Medien, EPDM für alkalische Reiniger und FKM, der Fluorkautschuk für aggressive Lösemittel. Man kann sich das Netz wie ein engmaschiges Sieb vorstellen, in das sich kleine Moleküle einlagern können. Wie eng dieses Sieb ist, entscheidet, was hineinkommt.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\n\u003cp\u003ePasst das Medium nicht zum Material, wandern Lösemittelmoleküle zwischen die Ketten und drücken sie auseinander. Der Ring wird dicker, weicher und verliert seine Rückstellkraft. Der Kolben läuft dann nicht mehr dicht im Zylinder, zieht Luft und baut keinen Druck mehr auf.
