What is COLOURLOCK Leather Colour for Ford? — The perfectly matched standard leather colour allows for faithful colour refreshes and repairs on Ford leather, ensuring a consistently even, factory-typical finish.
COLOURLOCK Leather Colour (Ford) is a precisely matched standard leather colour for professional repair, refreshment, and re-dyeing of Ford leather interiors. The colours are based on original Ford colour samples and are formulated to blend harmoniously with existing surfaces. Ideal for seat bolsters, steering wheels, armrests, door panels, and all pigmented smooth leather in the vehicle interior where colour fidelity and an OEM look are crucial.
💡 Practical Tip from Detailing1 Workshop: In our workshop, we often see the same problem with Ford preparations — colour loss on seat bolsters and steering wheels is covered up with cheap care spray that only lasts four weeks. With Leather Colour (Ford) dabbed onto a microfiber pad in 2–3 thin layers, with 30 minutes drying time in between, and finally sealed with Top Coat Dull — the result lasts 2–3 years like new from the factory.
Leather Colour (Ford) is applied in 2–3 thin layers, with 30 minutes drying time in between, and finally sealed with Top Coat. Thin layers last for years; thick layers crack.
Before applying the colour, the leather is washed with leather cleaner and degreased with Plastic Cleaner or rubbing alcohol. Deep cracks and scuffs are levelled with Filler or Super Filler and sanded smooth with 1000-grit sanding fleece. The Ford colour shades are then dabbed on with a microfiber pad, wiped out with a soft brush, or, for larger repairs, applied with a spray bottle.
After complete drying for at least 4 hours, seal with Top Coat — Dull for a matte, original OEM look, Glossy for medium shine, High Gloss for maximum brilliance. One litre of Leather Colour covers approximately 8–10 m² of leather surface; a 250 ml bottle is sufficient for a complete pair of seats including the steering wheel. The same workflow works for all components from seat cushions to door panels and the centre armrest.
Leather Colour (Ford) is exclusively suitable for pigmented smooth leather — the standard in modern automotive applications. Natural leather, aniline leather, and suede react differently and require other COLOURLOCK product lines.
The water-based formulation bonds with the pigment layer of modern automotive leathers, remains elastic, and accommodates leather movements without cracking. With natural leather or open-pored aniline leather, the colour penetrates unevenly into the fibre, staining the leather blotchy — here, Leather Fresh (Ford) as a care variant or special aniline lines are used. Suede, velour, and Alcantara are treated with Nubuk Fresh (Ford), which preserves the rough fibre structure instead of gluing it.
If colour fidelity to the original factory colour is crucial and the component is to be extensively restored, Leather Colour is the right choice. If only a small area (steering wheel abrasion, a single crack) needs to be repaired, Fluid Leather (Ford) in a 20 ml tube is more economical and precise. If the leather only appears slightly faded, Leather Fresh as a care variant is usually sufficient.
Leather Colour (Ford) is the professional choice for detailers, independent workshops, and ambitious owners who prioritize value retention and original Ford colour fidelity over quick care solutions.
For lease returns, used vehicle preparations, and classic and youngtimer restorations, OEM colour fidelity determines value retention and selling price. The professional 4-step workflow (cleaning, sanding, dyeing, sealing) takes 4 hours including drying per component and delivers a result that lasts 2–3 years like new from the factory. One litre of Leather Colour costs approximately 30 cents per 100 ml of treated area — workshop calculation including Top Coat is around 12 Euros per component.
For pure care routines without workshop tools, Leather Colour is overkill — Leather Fresh (Ford) is sufficient there. For spot repairs on the steering wheel or individual cracks, Fluid Leather or the Leather Care Sets (Ford) are more economical. However, if you want to restore complete seat bolsters, steering wheels, or door panels and value original Ford colour fidelity, the 1-litre bottle or 250 ml container is indispensable.
Dark Ivy Green Metallic, Biscuit, Black, Blue, Charcoal Black, Cognac, Ebony, Ice Stone, Light Stone, Windsor Black, Belmont, Ceramic, Espresso, Rouge Noir, Light Sand, Derby Tan, Gray, Hazelnut, Black Ruby, Louis Verona Saddle, Cashmere, Java, Oasis, Dark Grey
COLOURLOCK Leather Colour (Ford) is a water-based, elastic leather standard dye in original Ford shades. It is used for repairing, refreshing, or recoloring pigmented smooth leather in vehicle interiors — seats, steering wheels, armrests, door panels.
First, thoroughly clean and degrease the leather. Fill and sand any damage with filler. Then, dab, wipe, or spray the Leather Colour thinly — 2–3 thin layers are better than one thick one. After complete drying, seal with Top Coat (Dull/Glossy/High Gloss).
Leather Colour is the professional repair dye (1L/250ml, can be sealed with Top Coat). Leather Fresh is the conditioning color cream (1L/100ml) for lighter touch-ups without extensive preparation. For deep abrasion → Leather Colour; for dull surfaces → Leather Fresh.
The shades are based on original Ford factory color samples. However, for heavily faded leather, we still recommend a color test in an inconspicuous area, as the original leather darkens or fades over the years.
Three classics: (1) Leather not degreased beforehand — paint does not adhere. (2) Layer applied too thickly — cracks when drying. (3) Top Coat sealant omitted — abrasion resistance under 6 months. With proper preparation, the result lasts 2–3 years.
Yes, for lasting abrasion resistance. Without Top Coat, the color on seat bolsters and steering wheels will wear off again within a few weeks. Top Coat Dull = matte-original (OEM look), Glossy = medium sheen, High Gloss = high sheen.
