COLOURLOCK Leather Colour for Opel: Original Standard Colour for Factory-Original Leather Repairs

What is COLOURLOCK Leather Colour for Opel? — The perfectly matched standard leather colour enables authentic colour refreshing and repairs on Opel leather, ensuring a consistently even, factory-typical finish.

COLOURLOCK Leather Colour (Opel) is an exactly matched standard leather colour for professional repair, refreshing, and recolouring of Opel leather interiors. The colours are based on original Opel colour samples and are formulated to blend harmoniously into existing surfaces. Ideal for seat bolsters, steering wheels, armrests, door panels, and all pigmented smooth leather in the vehicle interior where colour fidelity and OEM appearance are crucial.

  • Original Opel colour shades – Developed based on factory-matched colour samples.
  • For repair & refreshing – Ideal for abrasion, fading, and colour loss.
  • Professional finish – Optimal adhesion and even colour appearance.

💡 Practical tip from Detailing1 Workshop: In our workshop, we often see the same problem during Opel detailing — colour loss on seat bolsters and steering wheels is covered up with cheap care sprays that don't last four weeks. With Leather Colour (Opel) dabbed on with a microfibre pad in 2-3 thin layers, dried for 30 minutes in between, and finally sealed with Top Coat Dull — the result lasts 2-3 years, like new from the factory.

Prepare, dab on thinly, seal with Top Coat

Leather Colour (Opel) is applied in 2-3 thin layers, dried for 30 minutes in between, and finally sealed with Top Coat. Thin layers last for years, thick layers crack.

Before applying the colour, the leather is cleaned with leather cleaner and degreased with Plastic Cleaner or cleaning alcohol. Deep cracks and abrasion marks are filled with Filler or Super Filler and sanded smooth with 1000-grit sanding fleece. The Opel colour shades are then dabbed on with a microfibre pad, wiped over with a soft brush, or, for large-area repairs, applied with a spray bottle.

After complete drying for at least 4 hours, seal with Top Coat — Dull for a matte, original OEM look, Glossy for medium sheen, High Gloss for maximum brilliance. One litre of Leather Colour covers approximately 8-10 m² of leather surface; a 250 ml bottle is sufficient for a complete pair of seats including the steering wheel. The same workflow works for all components from seat cushions to door panels and the centre armrest.

Pigmented leather yes, natural leather and suede no

Leather Colour (Opel) is exclusively suitable for pigmented smooth leather — the standard in modern automotive applications. Natural leather, aniline leather, and suede react differently and require other COLOURLOCK product lines.

The water-based formulation bonds with the pigment layer of modern automotive leather, remains elastic, and accommodates leather movements without cracking. With natural leather or open-pore aniline leather, the colour penetrates unevenly into the fibres and stains the leather — here, Leather Fresh (Opel) as a care variant or special aniline lines are used. Suede, velour, and Alcantara are treated with Nubuck Fresh (Opel), which preserves the rough fibre structure instead of gluing it together.

If colour fidelity to the original factory colour is crucial and the component is to be extensively restored, Leather Colour is the right choice. If only a small area (steering wheel abrasion, a single crack) needs to be repaired, Fluid Leather (Opel) in the 20 ml tube is more efficient and precise. If the leather only appears slightly faded, Leather Fresh as a care variant is usually sufficient.

For detailers, workshops, and owners of classic and vintage cars

Leather Colour (Opel) is the professional choice for detailers, independent workshops, and ambitious owners who prioritise value retention and original Opel colour fidelity over quick care solutions.

For leased vehicle returns, used car detailing, and classic and vintage car restorations, OEM colour fidelity determines value retention and resale price. The professional 4-step workflow (clean, sand, colour, seal) takes 4 hours including drying per component and delivers a result that lasts 2-3 years, like new from the factory. One litre of Leather Colour costs approximately 30 cents per 100 ml of treated area — workshop calculation including Top Coat is around 12 euros per component.

For pure care routines without workshop tools, Leather Colour is overkill — Leather Fresh (Opel) is sufficient there. For spot repairs on the steering wheel or individual cracks, Fluid Leather or the Leather Care Sets (Opel) are more economical. However, anyone who wants to restore complete seat bolsters, steering wheels, or door panels and values original Opel colour fidelity cannot do without the 1-litre bottle or the 250 ml container.

What is COLOURLOCK Leather Colour for Opel?

COLOURLOCK Leather Colour (Opel) is a water-based, elastic leather standard colour in original Opel shades. It is used for repairing, refreshing, or recolouring pigmented smooth leather in vehicle interiors — seats, steering wheels, armrests, door panels.

How do I apply Leather Colour (Opel) correctly?

First, thoroughly clean and degrease the leather. Fill and sand any damage with filler. Then, dab, wipe, or spray on thin layers of Leather Colour — 2–3 thin layers are better than one thick one. After complete drying, seal with Top Coat (Dull/Glossy/High Gloss).

What is the difference to Leather Fresh?

Leather Colour is the professional repair dye (1L/250ml, can be sealed with Top Coat). Leather Fresh is the conditioning colour cream (1L/100ml) for lighter touch-ups without extensive preparation. For deep abrasion → Leather Colour; for dull surfaces → Leather Fresh.

Do the colours really match Opel exactly?

The colour shades are based on original Opel factory colour samples. For heavily faded leather, we still recommend a colour test in an inconspicuous area, as the original leather may darken or fade over the years.

What are the most common mistakes we see in the workshop?

Three classics: (1) Leather not degreased beforehand — paint does not adhere. (2) Too thick a layer applied — cracks during drying. (3) Top Coat sealant omitted — abrasion resistance below 6 months. With proper preparation, the result lasts 2–3 years.

Do I absolutely need a Top Coat?

Yes, for lasting abrasion resistance. Without Top Coat, the colour on seat bolsters and steering wheels will wear off again within a few weeks. Top Coat Dull = matte-original (OEM look), Glossy = medium gloss, High Gloss = high gloss.

Care Note Leather Standard Color (Opel):

Leather Colour (Opel) is exclusively suitable for pigmented smooth leather—the standard in modern automotive applications. Natural leather, aniline leather, and suede react differently and require other COLOURLOCK product lines.

The water-based formulation bonds with the pigment layer of modern automotive leathers, remains elastic, and accommodates leather movements without cracking. With natural leather or open-pored aniline leather, the color absorbs unevenly into the fibers and discolors the leather blotchy—here, Leather Fresh (Opel) as a care option or special aniline lines are used. Suede, velour, and Alcantara are treated with Nubuk Fresh (Opel), which preserves the rough fiber structure instead of gluing it together.

If color fidelity to the original factory color is crucial and the component is to be extensively restored, Leather Colour is the right choice. If only a small area (steering wheel abrasion, single crack) needs to be repaired, Fluid Leather (Opel) in the 20ml tube is more economical and precise. If the leather only appears slightly faded, Leather Fresh as a care option is usually sufficient.
