What does COLOURLOCK Leather Shoe Sole Oil do? — The oil feeds leather soles with deep nourishment, keeps them supple, protects against drying and cracking, and adds years to well-made welted shoes.
COLOURLOCK Leather Shoe Sole Oil is exactly what you want if you're keeping welted leather shoes supple and hard-wearing for the long haul. Quality soles in particular need regular oiling — they take a beating day to day and dry out fast once the moisture is gone. The oil sinks deep into the leather layers, builds elasticity, cuts the risk of cracks and improves the way the sole flexes underfoot — perfect when you don't just wear your leather shoes but want to keep them.
Leather Shoe Sole Oil is built, per the maker, on a balanced oil-and-fat blend developed for the dense but absorbent structure of leather soles. Capillary action pulls the formula deep into the material, where it makes up for lost moisture — and that matters, because dry soles wear out far quicker. Unlike surface dressings, the oil saturates the structure from within and keeps the natural flex that's essential for how you walk and how the shoe feels. That deep penetration also stops brittle cracking along the wear edges, especially on Goodyear-welted builds.
Before you start, the sole should be dry, clean and free of street grit. Brush or wipe Leather Shoe Sole Oil on evenly until you can see the leather start to drink it in. A short dwell is enough; either let any excess soak in fully or wipe it back lightly. New or long-neglected soles are worth a repeat treatment until they reach a saturated, supple state. Depending on use (daily wear, weather, how firm the leather is), a top-up every month or two makes sense. The oil darkens the leather tone slightly — that's normal and shows the fibres are taking on moisture again.
After treatment, leather soles feel noticeably more supple, cushion better and show less wear. On quality business, bespoke and welted men's shoes especially, Leather Shoe Sole Oil is a must-have in the regular routine, since the outsole is a functional wear point. It also pays off on leather boots or fashion shoes with a long-lasting leather sole. It's no replacement for a rubber resole or orthopaedic work — it stretches the life of the leather sole you've got and keeps the look even and hard-wearing.
Only briefly while it soaks in. Once it's fully absorbed, the sole stays grippy and stable.
About every four to eight weeks, depending on use. Heavily worn shoes do better with more frequent care.
No. It's made specifically for outsoles and too rich for fine upper leather.
Yes, a little. That's normal and shows the material is saturated. The tone lightens again slightly as you wear them.
Yes, for all leather soles, whatever the model. What matters is the natural, unpadded leather outsole.
